Chamber music for violin, traverso, viola da gamba/cello and harpsichord. (5 players). The programme traces the development of this oeuvre in Bach's work culminating with Bach's evening with Frederick the Great at the "Palace of Reason" which inspired his great trio from the "Musical Offering".

Fascinating insights as to the origin and purpose of Bach's chamber oeuvre for this combination of instruments are revealed. Whether they be reincarnations of lost concerti, draw inspiration from specific religious works, or were used as part of Bach's own teaching method, an intriguing new focus for interpretation is offered for each piece.
